Emily is an incisive, questioning reader and director of new scripts, with great sensitivity to both a writer's intention, and the wider social context in which the text exists. She has been invaluable in creating challenging and dynamic work, and is an enormous collaborative asset.

Dramaturgy and Script Reading:

Alongside Emily’s directing work, she is a professional dramaturg and script reader. She has read for prizes and companies across the UK such as the Bruntwood Prize, Pint Sized Theatre and Old Red Lion Theatre under Stewart Pringle. Emily has provided dramaturgical support on plays that have gone on to win prizes such as The Scotsman Fringe First and Off West End Awards.

Emily offers a bespoke script reading service tailored to the needs of the writer’s work and the style of feedback that proves most useful. These include in person meetings for those based in the North East and Yorkshire. Her approach to dramaturgy centres the playwright’s intent, with focus always being on helping them make the best version of the play they want to make.
